OUR TEAM

Leveraging Existing Programs for Maximum Benefit

The Equal Opportunity Solar (EOS) Fund was created to advance the innovative funding mechanisms for solar systems and break down the financial barriers that inhibit the scaling of solar power systems. Through leveraged donations, the EOS Fund aims to put solar power on 1,000 roofs in Hawaii.   We are working with the Hawaii Community Foundation and Hawaiian Community Assets to augment Hawaii's Green Infrastructure Authority's GEM$ program to provide financing for solar solutions to low and middle income families in Hawaii.

Hawaii Community Foundation

HCF is a steward of more than 1,050 funds, including over 300 scholarship funds, created by donors who desire to transform lives and improve communities. In 2021, HCF distributed more than $85.3 million in grants and contracts statewide.

The Green Energy Money $aver (GEM$) On-Bill Program is a state funded innovative financing program for homeowners and renters offered exclusively by the Hawaii Green Infrastructure Authority. GEM$ was designed to provide split incentives and innovative repayment mechanisms to increase landlord/property owner participation in the installation of approved energy improvements such as Solar PV systems.

FOUNDERS

Doug and Joni Kroll

Doug can recall visiting the Kailua dump for the first time at age 5.  He wondered even then how our island home could sustain this throw away culture.  Thus began his journey into sustainability, eventually focusing on solar and energy independence.  Doug and Joni were married on Kailua Beach in 1988 and raised their family in Kailua.  They are avid hikers and nature lovers, and life time members of the Hawaii Trail & Mountain Club.  They first put solar PV on their home in 2006.  Their vision is for all homes in Hawaii to have the option of roof top solar.
